Should you buy one?
If you want a fat tire e-bike with a lot of power and a complete set of features for the money, the Bee Cool Pathfinder is a steal. It has a 750W rear hub motor, 4-inch tires, a twist throttle that works from a stop, turn signals, a horn, a color display, a rear rack and fenders. The brakes impressed me, and I rode over 40 miles without charging and still had plenty of battery left.
The catch is weight. This is a heavy bike, so if you need to carry it up stairs or take it on public transit, look somewhere else.
Buying note: as of Oct 22, 2026, Bee Cool’s Pathfinder page shows it as sold out at $1,399. The link below goes straight to Bee Cool’s product page, and it isn’t an affiliate link.

Quick specs
The Bee Cool column comes from Bee Cool’s Pathfinder page, checked Oct 22, 2026. The other column is what I said or saw in my March 2022 video. I got more than 40 miles on one charge. Bee Cool’s 1,399 price was marked sold out on Oct 22, 2026.

Where my video and Bee Cool’s page disagree:
- Gears. In the video I said “I believe” there were eight gears in the rear. Bee Cool lists a Shimano 7-speed, so trust Bee Cool on that.
- Range. I quoted an estimated 40 to 65 miles in 2022. Bee Cool’s page now lists up to 82 miles on pedal assist and 50 miles on throttle. My own ride was over 40 miles with plenty left.
- Price. It was $1,899 when I filmed. Bee Cool now shows $1,399, but sold out.
Pros and cons
Pros
- 750W rear hub motor with real punch
- Twist throttle that works from a stop
- Turn signals with LEDs and a horn
- Color display with 5 power levels
- 4-inch tires with traction on and off road
- Brakes that impressed me in a hard stop from about 20 mph
- Front fork suspension
- Headlight, tail light, rear rack, fenders and metal pedals included
- Over 40 miles on one charge with plenty left
Cons
- Very heavy; you’ll need a heavy-duty car rack
- Not a bike to carry up stairs or onto a bus or train
- The “always be cool” message on startup is a little silly
- Sold out on Bee Cool’s site as of Oct 22, 2026
Controls and display
The Pathfinder is loaded up front. There’s a horn, and there are turn signals with LEDs.
The color display has a little animation when it starts, and it gives you 5 different power levels. It shows the stats you want while riding, including the time and battery voltage. When you turn it on, it says “always be cool.” That’s a bit silly, but it’s a small thing.
The twist throttle works from a stop, so you can go without pedaling at all. When I gave it throttle, it felt like riding a moped or a motorcycle.
Drivetrain and tires
There’s a single chainring up front and a 7-speed in the rear, per Bee Cool (see the gears note above).
The 4-inch tires are the star here. They give you traction on the road and off road. I’m about 6’1”, and the seat and riding position on this large e-bike felt very nice.
The bike also has a rear rack and metal pedals. The pedal assist uses a cadence sensor, and it kicks in quickly once you start pedaling.
Brakes, suspension and lights
I did a braking test at about 20 mph on asphalt, pulling hard to try to skid, and the brakes were really impressive. I’m about 200 lb, so they had real work to do. You can see the front fork staying in control during the stop. Bee Cool lists dual 180mm hydraulic disc brakes.
You get front fork suspension to take the edge off bumps. There’s a tail light and a headlight too. The fenders mean you don’t get road spray all over you when the ground is wet.
Range
I rode over 40 miles without charging it and still had plenty of battery left. That beats the low end of the 40 to 65 miles I quoted in 2022. Bee Cool’s current page claims up to 82 miles on pedal assist or 50 on throttle alone from its 48V 20Ah battery; I didn’t test those figures. Your range will depend on your weight, your terrain and how much you use the throttle.
After that ride I said you can tell Bee Cool isn’t using cheap battery parts. That’s my read from one test, not a teardown.
What the specs mean on the road
750W, 1,100W peak, 92 Nm. On the throttle it felt like a moped.
Cadence sensor. The motor kicks in as soon as the pedals turn, at a set level for each assist setting. It responds quickly, but it doesn’t scale with how hard you push the way a torque sensor does.
26 x 4 inch tires. They gave me traction on and off road, and they add weight.
Hydraulic brakes, 180mm rotors. Bee Cool lists dual hydraulic discs. They stopped me hard from about 20 mph.
48V 20Ah battery. That’s 960Wh (48 x 20), a big battery, which fits with my 40+ mile ride that still left plenty in the tank.
28 mph top speed. That’s Class 3 territory, if your bike is set up that way. Class 3 bikes are banned from some bike paths, so check local rules. My Class 2 vs Class 3 guide covers it.
The weight problem
This bike is heavy. It’s heavy because of the big motor and the 4-inch tires. In the video I lifted it, but don’t expect to get it over your head. If you want to put it on your car, you’ll need a heavy-duty car rack.
For most people, I said it’s an excellent weekend fun ride or a great bike to ride to work every day.

Rival figures come from my Bee Cool Adventurer review and Aventon Aventure 3 review.
- Bee Cool Adventurer: Bee Cool’s other fat tire bike, and the one to look at while the Pathfinder is sold out.
- Aventon Aventure 3: costs more, with a longer rated range on Aventon’s page.
- Engwe EP-2 Pro: a folding fat tire bike if storage matters more to you.
Who it’s for
- Commuters with off-road sections. The 4-inch tires handle pavement and dirt, so it’s great if your commute mixes both.
- Riders who want throttle power. The throttle works from a stop and feels like a moped.
- Bigger riders. At about 6’1” and 200 lb, the brakes impressed me in a hard stop from about 20 mph.
- Value shoppers who want turn signals, a horn, a rack and fenders without paying extra.
Who should look elsewhere
- Apartment dwellers who have to carry the bike up stairs.
- Transit riders who want to take the bike on a bus or train.
- Anyone without a heavy-duty car rack who needs to drive the bike places.
- Buyers who need one now. Bee Cool shows it sold out as of Oct 22, 2026.

How far can it go on one charge?
I rode over 40 miles without charging and still had plenty left. Bee Cool lists up to 82 miles on pedal assist and 50 miles on throttle.
How many gears does it have?
Bee Cool lists a Shimano 7-speed. I said eight in my video, but Bee Cool’s number is the one to trust.
Is it good off road?
Yes. The 4-inch tires gave me traction both on and off road, and the front fork helps with bumps.
Does it have turn signals?
Yes. It has turn signals with LEDs, plus a horn, a headlight and a tail light.
Is the Pathfinder heavy?
Yes. You’ll need a heavy-duty car rack, and it’s not a good pick if you need to carry it.
Price
When I filmed in March 2022, the Pathfinder retailed for $1,899 with free shipping, and I called it a steal for a complete package. As of Oct 22, 2026, Bee Cool’s page shows it at $1,399 (compare-at $1,999), but sold out. If you’re shopping now, check my list of the best e-bikes under $2,000 and my fat tire e-bike guide.
